Marian Mengedoht

Profiled January 9, 2011

Marian Mengedoht is one of those people who radiates kindness. I am sure that I speak for many in saying, “You feel good when she’s around.” She is just one of those dynamic and self-confident people who are such a great blessing to our church.

Frances and I experienced that last Monday, Jan. 17 as Marian helped chaperone the Elementary Adventure Day here at church. She is a terrific chaperone as she is great with the kids, she’s patient, she gets involved right away, and simply knows how to help. The Mengedohts have been blessed with a beautiful 9-year-old daughter named Addie, who is in Grade 3. Addie’s actively involved in Sunday School and Youth events at Good Shepherd. So, enjoying the special moon bounce and activities hosted in Shepherd’s Hall, as well as participating in a kid-oriented public service fair, was perfect for a family day off together.

In the years I have known Marian she has helped with countless Youth events, and, as Addie grows, for field trips. Marian has been a group leader at Vacation Bible School for many summers. Her groups are always exceptional, and other adults have loved working with her. She is a “shepherd” or counselor for Rotation Sunday School, alternating each week with another parent. She also has helped support our Youth choirs, Health Ministry, Christian Education and Youth fellowship.

The Mengedohts joined Good Shepherd in November 2001, prior to the birth of their daughter. After moving to Maryland in 1993, Marian and her husband visited many churches while settling into their professions and becoming familiar with the area. Marian said that they kept returning for visits to Good Shepherd as they were impressed by the programs available to families with young children and the preschool affiliation.

Marian is a Registered Nurse by profession and has enjoyed working in various settings. Currently, she is employed part-time as a risk advisor with a health insurance company, allowing her to work from home and have time to devote to Addie’s school and extra-curricular activities.

“While at Good Shepherd, it has been wonderful watching our daughter grow up in the congregation, forming her own close friendships and having fun as she grows into a person of faith,” Marian commented. “Our family looks forward to many more years growing with our Good Shepherd extended family.”

Thank you, Marian, for all you do! - Pastor Dave
