This week I’ve chosen to profile the great work accomplished on April 30, 2011 by our Rebuilding Together crew. Their repairs and cleanup of a Gaithersburg townhouse not only aided neighbors in need, but also provided an example to our community of God’s work in action via hands-on service by People of Faith. Work crew “ambassador” and Social Ministry co-chair Paula Bunge describes the day:

We had a total of 22 workers on our Rebuilding Project Day plus additional folks who helped provide lunch! It was a beautiful day for our outdoor team headed by Marlin Strand to work their magic on both the front and back yards, which also included fence repair and staining, and fixing and adding a shed.

Indoor workers met the challenges of replacing a sliding glass door off the deck and a closet door, installing a new dishwasher, smoke detectors, ceiling tiles, stair railing and nearly a whole day of cleaning tiles/caulk in an upstairs bath.

The homeowners were very appreciative of everyone’s efforts on their behalf

and treated the workers to their own recipe of tasty Sri Lankan fish rolls!

We have a follow up work day on Saturday, May 7 to replace the front door and to finish the back, install a bathroom sink, vanity and grab bars, a dryer vent, replace another stair railing, and perhaps stain the back deck.

All of these efforts will help this family live more safely and securely in their home for years to come.
