Scott and Colleen - Jumping in Right Away

Scott Brown and wife Colleen Fischer arrived at Good Shepherd for worship in the middle of this Winter. They quickly checked “desire to learn more” on our worship attendance pads and within the week I had a chance to visit with them in their home in King Farm. Just a few weeks after that visit, they joined the church.

Both of them have gotten involved very quickly. They are a delightful couple who are very enthusiastic about our church and helping us grow. They attend the 11:30 a.m. Contemporary Worship service. As the team was revived this Spring, they both began playing for our church league co-ed softball team and are getting to know other young adults at Good Shepherd.

Holding a Master of Education degree, Colleen was recently hired to be a teacher at our Good Shepherd Lutheran Preschool beginning next Fall. She also plays in our Shepherd’s Bells hand bell ensemble for Traditional Worship.

Scott joined our Parish Life Fellowship Committee and was the catalyst in getting the Running Group started last weekend. About 15 GSLC members came out for the first running event, the Memorial 4 Mile on May 30. (Colleen’s photos of the race and comments are posted on our Facebook Page.) Scott’s enthusiasm is contagious and will help us connect more of our members to each other. I also give thanks that Colleen is one of the regular participants in our church’s Facebook ministry, and regularly contributes comments to the daily devotions.

Scott grew up in Anaheim, CA and Colleen in Erie, PA. The pair met at

Northwestern University outside Chicago, and has crisscrossed the country in pursuit of advanced degrees and careers. After getting married in Las Vegas (where Colleen taught elementary school) they traveled the world as Scott did research for his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in Seattle. They moved from Washington State to the Washington, DC area in late 2010 as Scott began work with the federal government.

Since moving to our area, Colleen pointed out, they’ve added to their family: A playful, 6-year-old Bichon Frise dog named Kopi was adopted by the couple from a local animal rescue. Kopi is short for Copernicus or NFL hockey player Anze Kopitar, depending on when you ask.

Colleen loves to write as well as cook and work with children. Scott loves history, ice hockey (in particular, the Los Angeles Kings), and has become an avid runner. In March this year, he added the National Marathon in DC to his growing list of daunting races.

“What we love most about Good Shepherd is the warm welcome we’ve received from every single person we’ve encountered at church. It’s what has encouraged us to get so involved so quickly,” Colleen commented. “It’s been such a perfect fit for our family that it almost feels like we were drawn here for a reason.”

Scott added, “Good Shepherd has made us feel part of the community and has helped us feel like we're at home.”

We are really blessed to have Scott and Colleen at Good Shepherd. I am so glad that the Lord brought them into our midst. - Pastor Dave
